Challenge

Challenge

Following violent public safety incidents at Turkey Mountain, the Tulsa River Parks Authority needed to improve visibility across a 750+ acre urban wilderness area with rugged terrain, trail entrances, parking lots, and areas where traditional power and wired connectivity were impractical.

Solution

Solution

Working with Midwest Technology and LUMINYS, the Authority deployed an off-grid, solar-powered security network using LUMINYS AI-enabled cameras, LumiDeterrent, LumiTracking PTZ coverage, and wireless connectivity. The system provides live video access and event notifications to the Tulsa Police Department’s Real Time Information Center, supporting faster awareness and remote patrol capabilities.

Result

Result

The deployment expanded visibility across key parking lots and trail entrances, enabled remote monitoring and after-hours deterrence, and gave public safety teams AI-assisted tools to review footage and respond to suspicious activity more efficiently.

Engineering a Network for the Hard-to-Reach

To address the park’s terrain and infrastructure challenges, Midwest Technology engineered an off-grid security network supported by solar power and wireless connectivity. LUMINYS AI-enabled cameras were deployed across key parking lots and trail entrances, helping extend visibility into areas that were difficult to monitor with traditional hardwired infrastructure.

Real-Time Visibility and Proactive Deterrence

The system connects live video and event notifications to the Tulsa Police Department’s Real Time Information Center, allowing public safety teams to assess activity remotely and respond with better situational awareness. LumiTracking PTZ cameras support virtual patrol capabilities, while LumiDeterrent technology enables automated voice announcements when individuals enter restricted areas after hours.

AI-Assisted Review for Faster Investigations

With Luminys analytics and intelligent search capabilities, public safety teams can search recorded footage more efficiently by filtering for relevant people, vehicles, movement, or visual attributes. Instead of relying only on manual review, investigators gain a faster path to locating useful evidence.

A Blueprint for Remote Park Security

Turkey Mountain shows how solar power, wireless connectivity, AI-enabled cameras, and RTIC-connected monitoring can help secure parks, trails, and public spaces where traditional infrastructure is difficult or costly to deploy. For public-sector environments, the project also highlights the importance of responsible implementation, privacy awareness, and NDAA-compliant technology selection.

Public Safety Impact

Q1

They’re AI-enabled. I can go back on the video feed and say, ‘Show me all the people in red shirts,’ or ‘Show me all the people walking a dog,’ or ‘Show me all the red cars that pulled in,’ and it can pull out those time snippets. With the cameras being more advanced and connected with TPD’s Real-Time Information Center, it will help TPD respond quicker.
